TEAs to Return to Virtual Format for 2021 Show

LOS ANGELES — The 2021 Transgender Erotica Awards (TEAs) will be a virtual affair for the second consecutive year, organizers announced today. The ceremony will be livestreamed on Sunday, March 7.

The TEAs were the first industry awards show to pivot to an online presentation last spring. The ceremony included pre-recorded segments with host Domino Presley as well as presenters and nominees.

“When we were forced to cancel the 2020 live event only days before it was scheduled, I never guessed we'd be in the same position a year later,” TEAs Executive Producer Kristel Penn said. "Although our digital event was a success, I fully believed at that time we'd have an almost normal show for 2021."

“For our 2020 show, everything was printed and ready to go: media walls, programs, marketing materials," Penn recalled. "Everything had to be dumped and all of our deposits were either forfeited or are still on hold. We had the first week of December as a hard deadline to make a decision about whether we’d do a live event in 2021; currently, all evidence is showing it would be highly improbable. It would be irresponsible to encourage people to make plans for a show that is unlikely to happen as a live event."

TEAs sponsors were recently informed the 2021 ceremony would again go digital.

"We want to make sure that the trans adult community is aware, although we regret not having a live show this year, we're going to do our utmost to present a positive, uplifting award show that showcases the amazing talent who’ve worked throughout this, the most difficult of years," said Penn.

Additional details, including nominees, will be announced in the coming weeks. Direct sponsorship and media inquiries to kristel@grooby.com and follow the awards on Twitter.
